Primary Quality Award for Careers Related Learning
Careers, aspirational and enterprise opportunities at Glebe Academy
Skype a scientist
We have taken part in a skype a scientist session with Karen Adler from Leicester University. We learned all about her work as a microbiologist and her studies into bacteriophages. It was fantastic and the children completed some amazing work with their new knowledge!
Careers related learning at Glebe Academy
Providing pupils with a consistent, purposeful and diverse experience of careers related learning is pivotal in giving children a wide ranging and open view of the world of work. Allowing the children to take part in careers related activities will raise aspirations, values, skills and behaviours of children and prepare them for making career and job-related decisions later on life; whilst simultaneously allowing children to showcase their talents and strengths in specific curriculum areas. These learning opportunities will be embedded in school values and curriculum learning, allowing the children to work to their full potential. Each year group will have careers related experiences from a range of visitors, workshops, visits and virtual experiences to broaden their horizons in the world of work. Each year group will also take part in an enterprise opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
November 2019 – The Ryman enterprise challenge – Glebesters grow their business skills!
The National Enterprise Challenge is the UK’s largest enterprise competition and provides students aged 11–15 with a real-life business challenge set by some of Britain’s best-known brands. Our budding Year five and six entrepreneurs/designers at Glebe Academy spent the day developing designs, adverts, mascots and posters for a new range of stationery for Ryman. They had the opportunity to develop important skills (communication, team work, design, speaking and listening, writing). Each team had the opportunity to present their themed product and the winning teams will have the opportunity to attend the finals event in February!
